Tamil new year 2010 – Varusha Pirappu is the Puthandu or Tamil New Year and the date is on 14th of April.The TamilNewYear follows the nirayanam vernal equinox and generally falls on April 13 or 14th of the Gregorian year. April 13 or 14th marks the first day of the traditional Tamil calendar and this remains a public holiday in both Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan people celebrate happy and prosperous Sinhalese.The Tamil New Year, Varsha Pirappu or Puthandu, is observed on the first day of Tamil month Chithirai. Chitirai 1 is an auspicious day for Tamil Nadu people and across the world the date of VarshaPirappu or Putandu is April 14. Varusha is the Tamil word for “year” and Pirappu can be translated as the “birth” or “beginning” or “commencement” of an event.
